Chris Parfett’s SH2-157 (Lobster Claw Nebula) won him Photo of the Week for October 21, 2022, thanks in part to good technical skills, colour control and noise suppression.

Parfett’s photo of SH2-157, described as a bright emission nebula in the constellation Cassiopeia, was captured over six nights in September and October, 2022. On his submission form, he notes that the “SII and OIII data have about six hours each, and the Ha is just over 10 hours.”
The image was taken in his backyard with a ZWO ASI2600MM Pro and a William Optics GT 102 (f/6.9) lens. Judges praised the overall image, noting that the target filled the frame with “very little empty space,” and that it is difficult “to get sharp detailed features within the nebula — but Chris has done a decent job with sharpness.”
Honourable mention

The honourable mention goes to Travis Newbigin’s close-up view of the Milky Way shot. It was taken with a Sony a7S and a Rokinon 135mm lens in Algonquin Provincial Park in Ontario on August 27, 2022.
