This poster — a supplement to the September/October 2004 edition of SkyNews — celebrates the start of the then-new Cassini mission to learn more about Saturn, its rings and its moons.

Description

NASA calls it “one of the most ambitious missions ever launched into space.” Launched on October 15, 1997, the Cassini–Huygens mission entered orbit around Saturn on July 1, 2004. Considered a huge success that changed the way we think about Saturn, its moons and rings, the orbiter de-orbited and sent to burn in Saturn’s upper atmosphere on September 15, 2017.

This poster — a supplement to the September/October 2004 edition of SkyNews — celebrates the start of the then-new mission with a natural-colour portrait of the planet taken on May 7, 2004, and an image from beneath the ring plane taken June 21, 2004.
