Bon Echo Provincial Park in Ontario offers pristine dark skies for astronomy buffs. David Crombie, of Burlington in southern Ontario, captured this image of the Milky Way this past summer using a Nikon D800 DSLR camera with a 14-24mm lens set to 14mm at f/2.8 for this 30-second exposure at ISO 4000. In the past, photographs taken at such high ISO settings would have been speckled with digital “grain,” but new DSLR camera models allow exceptionally noise-free tripod-mounted super-wide angle shots like this one.
