Photo of the Week for July 24, 2015
Canadian astrophotographer Malcolm Park of Prince Edward County, Ontario, was at the Atacama Lodge, San Pedro de Atacama, Chile, in mid-July when the most recent Comet PanSTARRS unexpectedly brightened to magnitude 5. (The comet is known officially as C/2014 Q1.) Unfortunately, the comet is on its way south and out of reach for Canadian observers.
Park’s photo is a 3-second exposure at ISO 5000 captured on July 18 with a Nikon D800 DSLR camera mounted to a 80mm Explore Scientific ED refractor telescope on a Sky-Watcher EQ6 Pro mount.
