Photo of the Week for June 20, 2014
Saturn, the night sky’s premier telescopic showpiece, was captured by Daniel Leclerc on May 19 from his backyard in Pointe-aux-Trembles (Montreal), Quebec, with a 8-inch Sky-Watcher Newtonian reflector telescope. The image shows the subtle equatorial cloud belt of the planet and the Cassini division separating the two main ring components. He used a DBK 21AU618.AS CCD camera at 60 frames per second, 4× Barlow lens, and a UV/IR-cut filter. AutoStakkert2! software was used to process nearly 2,ooo frames, followed by wavelet filtering with Iris.
