Photo of the Week for April 1, 2016
Here’s something we can do on the web site, but would be impossible in the magazine: show a moving image. While recording the Moon on March 21 at his observatory at Black Lake, near Perth, Ontario, Cliff Halliwell got a little more than he bargained for when a jet airplane zipped through his camera’s field of view. “My luck was two-fold — first, in capturing the plane, and second in noticing it,” Cliff says. “Like most imagers, I tend to let automated software sort the individual frames, but this time I happened to be showing the video sequence to my wife and that’s when we saw it.”
Cliff recorded the video clip with an Imaging Source DMK 41AU02 monochrome CCD camera attached to his Celestron NexStar Evolution 8-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope working at f/10.
