Photo of the Week for December 19, 2014
To get the very best views (and images) of the Moon, it pays to pick the optimum time for a given phase. As Guelph, Ontario, astrophotographer Ron Brecher remarks, “I rarely image the moon in summer — it’s too low in the sky — but in autumn, it rises higher, where the air is steadier.” On October 4, Ron captured this superbly detailed view of the gibbous Moon between fast-moving clouds.
He used a SBIG STL-11000M CCD camera and Baader R filter on his 10-inch f/6.8 ASA astrographic telescope. You can view more of Ron’s astronomical images at his web site: astrodoc.ca.
