Photo of the Week for January 16, 2015
Currently making its way across the evening sky, Comet Lovejoy (C/2014 Q2) is attracting a lot of attention from visual observers and astrophotographers alike. Among the rich harvest of photos we’ve received so far is this January 12 close-up portrait by Gord Rife of Schomberg, Ontario.
To create this photo, Rife combined simultaneous captures from two cameras: a Canon 60Da DSLR and a ST-5 CCD. Each was mounted on a separate telescope while acquiring the 39 individual frames used in the final image.
