Photo of the Week for November 22, 2013
Comet ISON suddenly increased in brightness by two magnitudes in mid-November, bringing it closer to earlier predictions. Current information on Comet ISON can be found here. Malcolm Park captured this image of Comet ISON on the morning of November 15 from near Bloomfield, Ontario. He used a Nikon D800 camera, taking multiple 30-second exposures at ISO 3200 while shooting through a TEC 140mm apochromatic refractor telescope. (Images were stacked using MaxIm DL software.) Dashes are star trails caused by the camera tracking the comet’s nucleus during the exposure.
