Photo of the Week for November 1, 2013
On the night of October 8, 2013, Shane Finnigan of Ottawa, Ontario, and a small group of observing friends decided to take advantage of a clear night and travelled to a nearby viewing area at the Irvine Lake airstrip. To their surprise, the northern lights flared up shortly after dark with mild activity lasting throughout the entire night. To add to the excitement of seeing a spectacular aurora, Shane happened to be shooting at the exact moment a bright meteor streaked through the same area of the northern sky. Equipment: Canon 7D DSLR camera with a 16-35mm lens, 15-second exposure at f/3.5 at ISO 2000.
