Photo of the Week for September 5, 2014
After a brief lull, the northern lights returned to the summer sky in late August. Photographer Paul Beebe captured the view from the shore of Lang Lake, near Upsala, Ontario, on the night of August 27/28. “This was probably the best showing of auroras I’ve witnessed since the beginning of the year,” he reports. “I headed out with my gear around 11 p.m., and didn’t return home until 4 a.m.”
He photographed the aurora with a Pentax K-5 DSLR camera equipped with a 10-17mm fisheye lens, set to 10mm and f/3.5. The 45.8 second exposure was recorded at ISO 3200.
