Taken from Saint-Georges-de-Windsor, Quebec, on January 20, Dubuc used a modded Canon camera and a Sky-Watcher Equinox 500mm at f/6.25. The exposure was two hours, each sub at 100 seconds and the core was 2.5 seconds.

“Orion Nebula and the Running Man — the most wonderful and bright nebula,” he wrote in an email.

And our judges agreed that he did a good job with the image.

“A really well-done presentation of this common but difficult target,” one said. “The dynamic range is excellent (trapezium stars are clear along with lots of dim nebulosity), colours are well-saturated, everything is sharp and nicely framed.”
